It's been over a year....and no, I am still not done posting from the 31 cities we visited in 19 days last summer!

After the unexpected drive through Switzerland's Jaunpass, we get to Montreux - a recommendation from a friend who studied abroad in Switzerland (thanks Tanya!) - and I am completely and utterly overwhelmed by the beauty of this place. We Hotwired a hotel (again) and came up with Hotel Du Grand Lac Excelsior. The most awesome thing about this hotel (besides the steal of a price we got it for) was that every single room in the place had a balcony that looked out over Lake Geneva and the Alps

THE PROMENADE
Walking after a long day of driving and visiting three other cities....was not fun. Montreux's lakeside promenade stretches for miles....You can walk from Château de Chillon all the way to Vevey (approx 2.5 hours), but no way josé - not today. We started from the hotel and walked towards the chateau - the views are incredible the entire way, but I was thankful there were plenty of things to see, plenty of places to sit, and plenty of places to drink along the way.

CHÂTEAU DE CHILLON
An hour of walking later and we're finally here. The château itself is not all that impressive, to me it's all about the location. Surrounded by the snow-capped Alps and the gorgeous blue waters of Lake Geneva, the medieval Château de Chillon sits on a rocky island (barely, it's like a 20-foot bridge that connects it to the mainland) and has views to die for. The setting is spectacular.

After chillin' a bit at Chillon (lol) off we go - uphill! - to check out Old Town Montreux, then thankfully back to the hotel for a good night's rest. Tomorrow's another big day, with Lausanne, Geneva and Lyon on the schedule!
