Liechtenstein - Gorgeous Vaduz CastleLiechtenstein - Gorgeous Vaduz Castle

Still on Day 14…of 19. From Innsbruck, we head to our next stop of the day, Liechtenstein (180 km west, approx. 2.5 hours driving time). Out of all the countries we’ve driven in and out of on this trip, this was the first one that seemed to have a passport check station, however it seemed to be totally random. When our turn came up, they simply waved us through…..

Liechtenstein…..we stopped here because it’s on the way (had to make our way back to France) and because I love saying the name. Bordered by Switzerland and Austria, the Principality of Liechtenstein consists of just over 160 square kms of beautiful land surrounded by the Alps. Although it’s a small country, it had gorgeous scenery. The main city, Vaduz, is where we’ve parked ourselves to check out the area and the castle.

YOU'VE GOTTA SEE......

THE MAIN SQUARE
Städtle 6, 9490 Vaduz, Liechtenstein
Not too many tourists, we just followed the yellow brick walkway around the town. Not that much to see here…..shops, restaurants and a couple of museums. They use the Swiss Franc (CHF) here and prices were insanely high for what they were offering. You know things are gonna be pricey when you see the town clocks are all done by Rolex. If you want your passport stamped, head over to the Liechtenstein Tourist Information Centre, and they’ll do it for a small fee (€3, I think).

VADUZ CASTLE
9490 Vaduz, Liechtenstein
Overlooking the town centre, the castle is not open to the public because the Prince resides there. Even though it’s not open, you can wander pretty close by before security starts to get antsy. There’s a bus from the town centre up to it, or you can drive it…..but of course, my hubs wanted to walk it (!!!!!). So, got the info on where to go, the trail is not clearly marked and really hidden……but once you’re on it…..the higher you go, the better view.

VADUZ CATHEDRAL
Sankt Florinsgasse 15, 9490 Vaduz, Liechtenstein
Our last stop is this neo-Gothic cathedral. Beautiful to wander around outside and inside. But that’s about it.
